22/4/2016 0 Comments Summer term newsDear Acorns families, new and regular, welcome!
We had a lovely first week back! So many new faces mixed with the old ones, and some older regulars back again! It feels mellow, joyful and relaxed. Just a few reminders to all: Please try to arrive on time if not even earlier to settle your children, it makes a real difference not to be rushed, especially more sensitive people ...to arrive when already full and busy can be somewhat intimidating! All sessions start at 10 am, no confusion here! (yes last term the Wednesdays used to start at 10.15 but now we switched back!) We can't offer drop in, please book, this counts for outdoor sessions too,: to turn up without notice or invitation via email or text is not acceptable, please consider the leader's time and effort to prepare for the sessions. SSSSSHHH! Please, remember to use your quietest voices at our sessions, and minimize chatter, it is distracting for the children free play and for the leader. Watch the transitions, please!!! Adults please be aware of crucial times when the leader goes from one thing to the other and anticipate and help her to guide the children into the next moment, for example when we wash hands do this swiftly and calmly sit down and quietly wait for the blessing, as if you stand and chat the children don't sit down or others sit and wait and hungry children start banging the table! We try to avoid this by following the leader and maybe help her by bringing order and stillness before candle is lit! Thank you. Help, help, help! The leader is a guiding gentle fairy and her wings can be easily broken or slowed down or worn out by parents and adults who don't contribute! Helpful adults understand that we are a community, we bring a vegetable or fruit for snack as a gesture and the children understand this concept and like it a lot! It is a very healthy and powerful image for our children to see a kind and helpful and involved grown up: Grown ups, please don't even ask: just go and put the kettle on, make tea for yourself and your friends, help serving/cooking, preparing, washing, wiping, sweeping, brushing, washing cloths, tea towels, or whatever you think needs doing! Treat the church hall as if it was your home, remember the leader is also a tired mum with thoughts in her head, million of things to do, just like you. Leaders don't get paid much at all, just enough to cover travel and expenses. Assistants are volunteers and are part of the sessions because they want to be involved and learn. Please don't expect the leaders and assistants to serve and clean and lead the session, sing and share stories and craft without any help. Assistant always needed, please come forward if you want to be more involved. All our leaders were once assistants! Speak to us about this, if you think that is what you like!
